Here are your nominees for The Five Star Show 2018 WWE Rookie of the Year!

Ronda Rousey

Drew McIntyre **

Andrade Cien Almas

Ember Moon

Before I get to the award, I must mention that last night’s RAW was a good show! Admitting the show sucked in the beginning was great. New tag champs unexpectedly was cool. And the TLC match between Corbin and Rollins at the end was good stuff. I’m not doing a whole recap of the show. But if we are going to rip WWE when they suck, we gotta praise the company when they deliver. Good job WWE.

On to the award. This might be the easiest award of all to give out. Normally I would do a paragraph on each nominee for why he or she was nominated for the award. That’s not necessary for this one.

Andrade and Ember haven’t done enough to crack the top 3. AOP won the tag titles but already lost them last night. Drew McIntyre looks poised to have a big 2019. I counted him as a rookie despite him having a previous run in WWE with 3MB. This is the new Drew. He had a good bit of success this year. But he’s still a distant second place to our winner…

When Ronda appeared after the Royal Rumble to point at the Wrestlemania sign, the WWE landscape changed forever. She was the cherry on top of the Women’s Revolution. She exceeded all expectation in her Wrestlemania match. Her match with Charlotte at Survivor Series was superb. Rousey definitely impressed in her first year of being a WWE Superstar.

Rousey isn’t without flaws. Her in ring work is still somewhat limited. Her promo skills leave something to be desired. The former UFC Champion needs some work with her facials. She walks to the ring with a big happy to be here smile on her face, only to remember she’s supposed to be pissed off once she steps in the squared circle.

Despite some flaws, we have to remember that she is still a rookie. She’s not some indie wrestler with years of experience finally making it to the big leagues. She’s not an NXT call up. She is a novice when it comes to Sports Entertainment. When you remember that, it’s hard not to be impressed.

I personally wish she was on TV less. I feel like she should be a special attraction. I would prefer her to be more like Brock Lesnar than being on RAW every week. But to her credit, she’s there every week. Her being there every week is why critics have noticed flaws in the first place! We are literally watching her learn on the job. That’s incredibly impressive.

Ronda has big things on the horizon in 2019. Her delayed match with Becky Lynch will be one of the most anticipated matches of the year. There’s a potential switch to Smackdown coming as FOX executives want her when the show joins the network in October. Feuds with former champions like Sasha Banks and Bayley could be interesting with the right story behind it. You think 2018 was something for The Baddest Woman on the Planet? Wait til 2019.

Ronda Rousey is the TFSS WWE Rookie of the Year. Congratulations!
